8 amazing gel nail tips from experts for beautiful results!

After your gel manicure, use gloves when cleaning!
It might sound super obvious, but if you wash the dishes or clean your house and strong chemicals find their way onto your nails, it can damage the gel and cause it to chip or peel away.

nail tips

On that note, just avoid all hot water!
If you’re having a really hot bath or shower, try to keep your nails out of the water and especially avoid soaking them. It can weaken and damage them, eventually leading to early chipping or peeling.

nail tips

Use top coat of nail varnish after a week to prevent any chips.
It might sound weird but using a normal lacquer clear coat on top of your gel can help prevent any unwanted chips appearing.

nail tips

Camouflage growth
Most gel nails grow out pretty quickly, when you begin to see the nail near your cuticle grow out, cover it with glitter nail polish and disguise any growth until you’re ready to go back to the salon.

 nail tips

Never ever, ever peel off your gel polish!
Peeling it off damages your natural nail bed really bad. There are many ways to remove it without peeling, such as soaking your nails in acetone (https://www.allure.com/story/how-to-remove-gel-manicure-without-ruining-nails) or using an e-file (link to our youtube video being uploaded really soon).

nail tips

To remove:
File the top layer of gel polish off thoroughly before you apply acetone
You’re told to ‘file’ or ‘buff’ before you put cotton-soaked acetone on your nails and wrap it. However, our nail technician told us if you’re going to soak off your polish, be sure to put some elbow grease in first to really remove as much of the top layer of gel as you can with a hand file (doesn’t apply to removal by e-file).

nail tips

When filing, file only in one direction.
That might sound weird and feel unnatural to what you’re used to, but if you’ve ever had your nails done at a salon or by a technician, you’ll see they never file back and forth, it damages the nail! File in one direction only to prevent splits, breakage and weakening of the nail.

nail tips

Remove your cuticles thoroughly! Practice makes perfect
It’s important you don’t apply gel polish over your cuticles because they will grow out and the gel won’t last half as long as it’s supposed to. Practice soaking them in warm water, pushing them back, cutting them off or even using ‘cuticle removal cream’. Do what you can and spend a decent amount of time to have a clean and clear nail beds that are prepped for gel polish application!

10 Crazy Nail Designs You Won’t Believe Are Real!

When you think of nail designs, you'd often remember square shape, when everybody had French tips or neon colors right? Well, we're going to show you some design trends that were pretty extra!

We all know that a trend is something that people start to copy and sooner or later lots of people are doing it, when you see the following photos you're going to be happy to some of these design trends were just a phase!

And we’ll say it now before you think it.. “they're so impractical!”

pierced acrylic nail design

1. Pierced Nail Design
Admittedly, as a 90s kid myself, I remember seeing ladies with pierced nail design in those days. Fast-forward to nowadays and Kim K has taken it to a whole other level with a ring and chain joining the piercings together. Crazy!

botanical acrylic nail design
2. Botanical Nail Design
Of all the looks and designs using builder gel or acrylic, this is certainly one of the most beautiful. Carefully crafted succulent style plants would be sure to catch everyone's eye.

bubble acrylic nail design
3. Bubble Nail Design
We find it hard to believe that anybody looked at this shape and thought “I want that!” It's the strangest design that we're glad didn't go much further than nail technician's blogs and instagrams *face palm*.

prism acrylic nail design
4. Prism Nail Design
This nail design trend was big in South Korea, the home of wacky beauty trends. These prism nail designs had us in awe! The shape, the form, the colors – everything about them is aesthetically gorgeous! However, are they practical? Well that's another issue altogether. Would you like these prism nail designs? We definitely wouldn't say no.

spiral acrylic nail design
5. Spiral Nail Design
Spiral nail design... if you google search it there's some interesting results. We know they look cool and we take our hats off to the people who craft this work of art, but everybody knows you'd struggle to tie your shoe laces or cook your dinner with those claws. So, let's appreciate them for what they are but we don't recommend you try.

strange nail design
6. Duck Shape Nail Design
This is one nail design trend we are glad didn't catch on. It looks so un-natural it's almost uncomfortable to look at. Duck feet nail designs! Gross!

strange nail design
7. Scorpion Nail Design
Yes! Real scorpions! This actually became a worldwide phenomenon and people all over the globe were putting real scorpions INTO their nails. It's pretty cool but you can't help be scared that it's going to crawl out and sting you!

crazy nail design
8. Twerking Nail Design
Kim K has done it again! She inspired Russian nail shop ‘Nail Sunny’ to create real twerking nail designs, yes, they ACTUALLY move! First, they mold the shape of the person from clay, then they attach it to the nail, these looks sure do take a lot of prep. I guess this nail design hasn't exactly caught on, we'd say the nail design here is clay figurines built onto nails!

japanese nail design
9. Kawaii Nail Design
Beautiful Lolita style Kawaii nail design from Japan! The level of detail is breathtaking. They use so many jewels and hand-crafted clay flowers for this look it's truly an art form. You can search the internet for many more Japanese nail designs but we love this one the most!

cute nail design
10. Lego Nail Design
Got kids? Ask your nail technician for Lego nail design this month and watch how much they'll love it, you can thank us later. This nail design is kind of weird if you’re a grown adult without kids but each to their own I guess!

So, we’ve just finished up at the International Beauty Show New York (IBS NY), which is the nation’s longest running beauty show (over 100 years!). Read more here “MelodySusie Exhibiting at IBS NY Show 2018”.

We met many new friends, including salon owners, nail artists and professionals, as well as many students busy with final exams! We were also grateful to meet with those already familiar with our nail lamps, drills, and gel polishes, it was lovely to meet you all in person.

We had a great time hearing all your feedback and doing what we do best, listening to your need for new nail products.

We were the only brand at the show that has a full-line of UV/LED nail lamps!

For Nail Drills, the shine drill and the portable nail drill were the most popular. Understandably, many customers mentioned that they were nervous to use a nail drill at first, so we reassured them that our nail drills are easy to control and great for beginners (not to mention that it doesn’t break the bank!).

An already existing and valued customer was delighted to tell us that she already has two of our nail drills. She continued by saying that she appreciated what MelodySusie had done for her to help her learn and grow as a technician.

Furthermore, we received a suggestion to create a portable drill belt holder, what do you think? Is this something you would find useful? Let us know in the comments.

Overall, we are extremely happy with our first experience with IBS NY. The feedback and needs that we collected from our customers will help us continue to strive for designing more quality and affordable nail and beauty products for our customers.

AW Fashion Week Nail Trends

Feb 8 – Feb 16 – NEW YORK
Feb 16 – Feb 20 – LONDON

A/W 2018 fashion and beauty trends have just been revealed in New York and London Fashion Week in February. For the last few years there has been a rise in nail art trends at all fashion weeks. We want to show you our favorite nails from this years A/W shows.

New York

Libertine – Wow what a look! Inspired by what we can only say looks like tassels and fringes from pillow cases or lampshades, we love this! Highly impractical, but still a great look.

Chromat – We adore this trend, nails painted to look like an accessory or fabric you're wearing is just amazing.

Bibhu Mohapatra – Maybe this is classed more as body art because it isn't technically on the nail? Can we call it ‘Off Nail Nail Art’? We love it either way!

Gypsy Sport – Monochrome heaven! Timeless, classy and perfect to match any color you're wearing too. How cool is the hounds tooth nail art!

Adam Selman – Longer and almond shaped, this is your evening wear kind of nail, contrasted with a day time look. Definitely in our top 5.

London

Gareth Pugh – Holy moly, we saw this and just fell in love. We all remember that weird pierced nail trend, but this is just awesome.

Sophie Webster – This is nail art at its finest, focusing on textures, layers and gorgeous jewel embellishment.

Roberta Einer – This is something that's been done before but it only looks good when the color is right! Perfect pink and shape, we adore it.

Jeremy Scott – The extravagant designer couldn't be missed out. Neon pink leopard print painted on clear almond shaped nails, what else would you expect from Mr Scott?

Tom Ford – Subtle but sweet, this glossy reverse French manicure was hard to notice on first glance, maybe that's why it really is so cool.

Now you can try and recreate these trends on your own nails at home, using MelodySusie products.
