MelodySusie Unveils High-Tech “Natural Light” Makeup Mirror

Online beauty retailer claims to revolutionize home makeup application.

Fremont, CA – MelodySusie, an online retailer of premium cosmetics products, has unveiled the latest addition to their line-up of innovative beauty accessories: an LED-lit makeup mirror called the Narcissus.

While most beauty professionals agree that natural sunlight is the ideal lighting for makeup application, the average woman usually has no choice but to do her makeup indoors under her bathroom or bedroom lights.

“The problem is that most indoor lights are incandescent,” says Mars Guan, Senior Product Manager for MelodySusie. “Incandescent bulbs usually have a color temperature which is far warmer than that of natural sunlight. The result is all too familiar for many women—their makeup looks great in the bathroom mirror, but then entirely different when they go somewhere else. That’s because their makeup was applied under lights with an unsuitable color temperature.”

According to MelodySusie, their new Narcissus makeup mirror is the solution to this problem. Although its design is that of a classic facial mirror, it features a unique, ring-shaped LED light that frames the mirror. This light is shadowless and has a color temperature of 6500K, comparable to midday sunlight, whereas typical incandescent and halogen lights usually have color temperatures ranging from 2000K-3000K.

“These incandescent and halogen color temperatures are closer to candlelight than sunlight,” says Guan. “While that’s good for reading or relaxing, it’s not ideal for applying makeup. Also, our LED light is internally reflected before output, which makes it gentle and safe for your eyes.”

MelodySusie did add several warmer color modes to the Narcissus, however. In fact, the mirror can be swiveled upwards to convert into a table lamp with two light modes; one for reading and one for ambient nighttime usage. All of the lights are controlled by subtle touch switches on the side of the mirror.

In addition to the lighting functions, the Narcissus includes a cupped tray base that allows convenient storage of cosmetics and accessories. The device is powered by 4 AAA batteries or an included USB cable.
